I've been playing I Am Monkey on my Android phone for a few weeks now, and it's a solid little runner game that scratches that endless runner itch without demanding too much brainpower. It's a pure mobile game—no PC or console versions here, so no Steam or Xbox or Switch ports to speak of. The game first launched on the Google Play Store and App Store back in 2021, and since then, it's racked up over 10 million installs on Google Play alone, which tells you it's got some staying power. Best of all, it's completely free to download and play, but like a lot of modern mobile games, there are in-app purchases and in-app ads. The purchases range from $0.99 to around $9.99 for coin packs or removal of ads, which is pretty standard. The ads can be a bit aggressive if you're not paying, but you can usually skip them after a few seconds.
When you install I Am Monkey, you're basically controlling a monkey who's constantly running forward, and you've got to swipe left, right, up, or down to dodge obstacles, grab bananas, and collect coins. It's a classic endless runner, so the goal is to see how far you can get before you crash. The best part for me is the variety in the environments—you start in a jungle, but then you move to temples, beaches, and even snowy mountains, which keeps the visuals fresh. My favorite aspect is the character customization; you unlock new monkey skins as you play, and some of them are hilarious, like a ninja monkey or a pirate monkey. It adds a layer of personalization that keeps me coming back, even after a few fails.
Compared to similar titles like Temple Run 2 or Subway Surfers, I Am Monkey feels more laid-back and casual. Temple Run 2 is more intense with its turning mechanics and tight corners, while Subway Surfers focuses on grinding for hoverboards and missions. This game, though, is simpler—you're just swiping in four directions without any turning, which makes it easier to pick up and play for five minutes. I'd recommend it over others if you want something less stressful but still fun. It's a solid time-killer on Android, and since it's lightweight, it runs smoothly even on older phones. Plus, the monkey theme is just goofy enough to make you smile while you're dodging fruit and logs.
features
- Simple Controls 🕹️: Unlike Temple Run 2, where you have to tilt and swipe with precision, I Am Monkey uses just four directions—up, down, left, right. It's super easy to pick up, and you don't need to master any complex gestures. Perfect for casual gaming on Android.
- Visual Variety 🌴: While Subway Surfers sticks to city streets, this game cycles through jungles, beaches, and snowy peaks. The environment changes keep things interesting, and the graphics are bright and cartoony, which makes the app feel more polished than some other free runners.
- Character Skins 🐵: You can unlock over 20 different monkey skins, from a chef to a superhero. Temple Run 2 has characters, but they're more generic; here, the skins feel quirky and give you a reason to keep playing to collect coins for new looks.
pros
- Fast Download and Install ⚡: The APK size is under 100 MB, so it downloads and installs in seconds on any Google Play device. Subway Surfers has gotten bloated over the years, but this one stays lean, which is a big plus for limited storage space.
- Ad Management 💡: You can choose to watch ads for extra coins, or pay a small fee to remove them entirely. In Temple Run 2, ads pop up more aggressively, but here, they feel optional and don't ruin the flow of gameplay. It's a fair trade-off for a free app.
- No Internet Required 📶: You can play I Am Monkey offline, which is rare for modern mobile games. Subway Surfers needs a connection for events, but this one works perfectly in airplane mode. Great for commutes or remote areas.
cons
- Repetitive Gameplay 🔄: After a few hours, the obstacles and patterns start to feel similar. Subway Surfers has more power-ups and mission variety, but here, it's mostly the same dodging, and you'll hit a wall where you've seen everything the game throws at you.
- Limited Long-Term Goals 🏆: Unlike Temple Run 2, which has character upgrades and treasure chests, I Am Monkey mainly offers skins. Once you've unlocked a few favorites, there's less incentive to keep playing. The score-chasing can get stale quickly for hardcore gamer types.
- Occasional Ads During Gameplay 📺: While you can skip most ads, sometimes a full-screen video interrupts right after a run ends. Subway Surfers handles this smoother with optional reward ads, so this part of the experience can feel slightly intrusive if you're not paying for removal.

Seedance 2.0 vs Sora: The Future of AI Video Generation
The AI video race has intensified dramatically over the past two years. Platforms like Sora from OpenAI and Luma Dream Machine pushed the boundaries of text-to-video realism. Yet, despite their impressive outputs, most tools still operate as probabilistic generators—you describe a scene, and the model interprets it. Control remains limited. With the February 2026 release of Seedance 2.0, developed by ByteDance, the paradigm shifted. Internally known as Jimeng 2.0, Seedance does not position itself as just another video model. It positions itself as an AI Director. Rather than guessing what you want, Seedance 2.0 allows you to direct what happens. This distinction defines everything that follows.
