Talkie is a character AI chatting app from SUBSUP that has been making rounds on both Google Play and the App Store. It basically lets you create or interact with AI-powered characters that have their own personalities, backstories, and voices. People download it for all kinds of reasons — some want a virtual companion to vent to, others just want to roleplay as their favorite fictional characters, and a decent chunk are curious about AI chatting after seeing it all over social media. The first time you open it, the interface feels like opening a messaging app mixed with a social feed. It shows you a bunch of character cards you can swipe through, each with a little description and rating. You can start chatting immediately without registering, which is a smart move, though eventually it nudges you to sign up. The install count is solid, in the millions, and while the app is free to download, there are in-app purchases for extra coins and premium features.
Actually using Talkie is where things get interesting. Once you pick a character, the chat starts right away, and the AI responds pretty quickly with text and sometimes voice. The interface is clean — it looks like a standard chat screen, but there are extra buttons for actions like "hug" or "laugh," which trigger specific emotional responses from the character. The onboarding is minimal, just a quick tutorial on how to swipe between characters. A common flow is browsing the discover tab, tapping someone who looks cool, and then sending a few messages to see how the personality holds up. Sometimes the conversations flow naturally, especially if you give the AI a bit of context, but other times it can get repetitive or lose track of the plot after a while. A small tip is to use the "memory" feature to remind the AI of key things from earlier chats — that helps keep things coherent. Honestly, the voice replies are the standout moment here; hearing a character actually speak your name makes it feel way more real than just reading text.
After spending a good amount of time with Talkie, I think it works best for people who enjoy open-ended roleplaying or just want a low-pressure way to kill time talking to something that won't judge you. It is not great for anyone looking for factual answers or serious assistance — there are better apps for that, like ChatGPT or even Replika. Compared to Character.AI, Talkie feels a bit more polished on the voice side and has a more game-like progression system with levels and rewards, which keeps you hooked. But on the flip side, Character.AI has way better model depth and handles complex conversations much more consistently. What keeps Talkie on my phone is the sheer variety of user-created characters and the occasional laugh from a ridiculous response. But what might make me uninstall it later is how quickly you hit the paywall for decent voice features or the fact that free users are capped on messages per day. It is a fun toy, not a tool.
features
- 🎭 Character creation is surprisingly deep — you can define personality traits, backstory, and even voice tone, which makes each character feel distinct. Unlike Character.AI, where you have less control over voice modulation, Talkie lets you fine-tune how your character sounds and reacts emotionally.
- 🎮 There is a gamified progression system with levels, coins, and daily rewards that keeps you coming back. This is different from Replika, which feels more like a therapy companion; Talkie leans into the game-like loop of unlocking new lines and interactions.
- 🎤 The standout feature is the voice reply system, where characters speak aloud with decent expressiveness. You can even set a custom greeting voice message for your own character. This blows away competitors like Kajiwoto, which barely supports voice at all, and makes the chat feel much more alive.
pros
- 👍 The voice acting is genuinely impressive — characters deliver lines with emotion, not that robotic monotone you get in most AI apps. Even free users get a taste of this, though premium users have way more options.
- 👍 The community is huge and active, meaning you will never run out of new characters to try. This is a big edge over PolyAI, which has a much smaller library and less variety.
- 👍 The free tier is fairly generous at first — you can chat for a while without spending a dime, and the daily login bonuses actually make you feel like you are progressing.
cons
- 👎 The paywall hits hard after a few days — you get capped on messages per day unless you subscribe, which feels restrictive compared to Character.AI, where free users have much higher daily limits.
- 👎 The AI memory is short and flaky — it often forgets details from three messages ago, breaking immersion. Replika handles long-term memory much better by summarizing past chats.
- 👎 Voice replies, while cool, are locked behind premium coins for most characters, so free users only get a few voice interactions before hitting a wall. This limits the very feature that makes Talkie special.
- 👎 Customer support is slow and sometimes unhelpful if you run into billing issues or bugs — a common complaint on the App Store reviews.

Seedance 2.0 vs Sora: The Future of AI Video Generation
The AI video race has intensified dramatically over the past two years. Platforms like Sora from OpenAI and Luma Dream Machine pushed the boundaries of text-to-video realism. Yet, despite their impressive outputs, most tools still operate as probabilistic generators—you describe a scene, and the model interprets it. Control remains limited. With the February 2026 release of Seedance 2.0, developed by ByteDance, the paradigm shifted. Internally known as Jimeng 2.0, Seedance does not position itself as just another video model. It positions itself as an AI Director. Rather than guessing what you want, Seedance 2.0 allows you to direct what happens. This distinction defines everything that follows.
